Residents, motorists express worry over bad state of Njaba Bridge, Nkume Road

Residents and motorists around Njaba Bridge and Y-Junction, in Nkume community, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State have expressed worry over the deplorable condition of the road.

When Journalists visited the area on Saturday, it gathered that the entire Njaba Bridge from Owerri Orlu axis down to Y-Junction Nkume was in need of urgent repair to prevent loss of lives and property.

A community stakeholder, Mr Anselem Anokwute said apart from the visible structural defect noticable on the Bridge’s embarkment, the floor of the bridge was full of cracks and potholes.

He said the state of the roads at Awo-nmama Okwudor road had become a serious challenge for motorists.

“Anytime it rains, the Y-Junction at Nkume road down to Banana Junction and down to Orlu town is usually flooded, making them difficult for cars, buses and motorcycles to ply,” he said.

Anokwute, who said he is from Umuduogba community seized the platform to remind Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma of his promise to fix the Awo-nmama Okwudor road within 18months after assumption of office.

Also reacting to poor condition of Orlu road, Mr Steve Uzechi described the state of the road as terrible.

He said,” I don’t know exactly what the government is doing about the terrible state of this road. The role of a leader is to ensure the well being of its citizens, but the reverse is the case as they do not care about the welfare of the people.”
