The Spokesman of the Niger Delta Youth Parliament, Comr. Okafor Saviour has said that the primary assignment of the newly inaugurated parliament is to engage critical stakeholders in the oil and gas sector of the country’s economy especially as it affects the affairs of the Niger Delta region of the country with emphasis on her young people and how to effectively utilize proceeds of the sector to train, retrain and advance the course of Youth development with focus on other sectors like technology, agriculture waste management and alternative energy sources to equip them fit into solving modern day problems and innovations.

Comr. Saviour, who represents Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency in the parliament in a media chat with Okokobioko.com correspondents moments after the Niger Delta Youth Impact Summit 2021 and Inaugral Plenary Session of the Niger Delta Youth Parliament, that held today at the Ibom e-Library complex situated in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom, highlighted that what the parliament is set out to achieve is championing a new narrative in pressing home demands of youth inclusiveness in governance, national integration and infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region through advocacy for good governance, accountability and need for Youths of the region to shun all forms violence or illegality in pursuit of their legitimate rights.

Inugural Sitting of the 1st Assembly which held immediately after the Impact Summit had in attendance over 82 representatives of the various Federal Constituencies in the Nine Niger Delta state of the Federation and the Sutton lasted for about 1 hr and 30 minutes with Rt. Hon. Daniel Ifon (Member Representing Eket, Esit Eket, Onna & Ibeno Federal Constituency) presiding as pioneer Speaker of the Niger Delta Youth Parliament tagged the Blue Chambers.

RT Hon Daniel Ifon while speaking to members of the parliament, charged them to look away from the old order and bring in innovations and progressive ideas that will reposition the region her Youths for dividends of democracy. The event was witnessed by various government funtionaries of the host state – Akwa Ibom and representatives of the government of other states of the region.
